Student earns perfect score on CNA certification

Congrats! Student records perfect score en route to earning nursing assistant certification > North Channel Sentinel > News Archives > Houston Community Newspapers Online - News Around Town

Lisett Reyes recently earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the San Jacinto College Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) division and recorded a perfect score on the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP).

Nurse aides are certified through the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, and to score perfect on the national exam is quite a feat. The NNAAP exam is just one part of the nurse aide examination; the other is the Texas skills exam.

“Lisett’s perfect score sets a new standard of excellence,” said Mary Smith-Hill, CPD’s director of health occupations. “It is a terrific personal accomplishment. The CNA instructor completing the test mentioned to me that she hasn’t had a student receive a perfect score in over 12 years of testing.”

When asked how she commemorated her success, Reyes replied, “When I told my parents, they were so excited, and we went out to dinner to celebrate. When word spread, I received phone calls from my cousins, aunts and uncles – everybody was really happy for me.”

The Cloverleaf resident has an associate degree in biology, and coupled with her CNA certificate from San Jacinto College, she now has bigger plans for herself. “I want to work at a hospital or in a health care system to gain experience before attending nursing school so that I can start working as a registered nurse in two years,” she said.

The Continuing and Professional Development division of San Jacinto College offers programs and courses for individuals to retain or advance in their jobs, or make career transitions. The division provides training to companies and their employees to meet employers’ demands for a highly skilled workforce, while helping incumbent workers reach their potential.
