Iowa Hospice to present 'End of Life Nursing Consortium'

For those interested: newtondailynews.com | Iowa Hospice to present ‘End of Life Nursing Education Consortium’

The Iowa Hospice Education Program will be providing an End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) training to nurses and other health care providers interested in specializing in end of life care.

Nurses spend more time with patients who are facing the end of life that any other member of the health care team. Yet studies show many nurses feel inadequately prepared to provide the comprehensive care so important at end of life.

The ELNEC-SuperCore course will be held in Storm Lake on Sept. 17 and 18 at Kings Point Resort. This is a two-day intense program for nurses who wish to obtain certification and 14 CEU credits by receiving specialized training in end of life care. Topic areas include nursing care at end of life; pain and symptom management; cultural considerations; ethical issues; communication; loss, grief and bereavement; preparation for and care at the time of death; and achieving quality care at the end of life.

Any health care worker is invited to attend. Social workers and health care administrators are approved to obtain 12 CEU credits. This certification typically costs $500; however, Iowa Hospice will be providing it for $149 per person, or $100 per person for groups of two or more. The registration deadline is Sept. 10. Special room rates for the resort also are available to conference attendees.

The course is especially beneficial to those working in oncology, geriatrics, hospice, assisted living, long term care and hospitals. Iowa Hospice has provided the ELNEC training to more than 300 Iowa healthcare professionals and had rave reviews of the conference.

For more information or to register, contact Nancy Sharp at (515) 276-6696 or sharpn@iowa-hospice.com.
