    Re: medical floor

at my hospital it's about anyone that needs to be in the hospital that isn't a pediatric patient, OB or has had surgery, cardiac or ICU. They are the diabetics, pneumonia, flu, sent from nursing homes cause too sick for that at the moment, basically a catch all where I work that nobody wants to get pulled to and the majority of the staff they can keep don't really want to be.

    Re: medical floor

the med-surg floor where I work generally has patients who could possibly manage their illness at home or require acute care, and those who are in swing-bed for rehab. We deal with a lot of flu/pneumonia/diabetes and lately a lot of MRSA. We aren't equipped to deal with those who need more specialized care, even though sometimes we have to care for very critical patients on the floor. in general, it's very hard to find people who want to work on the floor and eveb harder to get them to stay.
