Pennsylvania NURSING

I am not a nurse but I have been working closely with Nurses now for the past 2 years in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. I am trying to getter a better feel for the nurses' emotional climate in PA.

There was alot of hospital striking activity within the past year and I know a lot of nurses were angry with the hospitals over the sticking issues but also because the rumors were that some for taking out of state travellers and paying huge hourly salaries over local agency nurses, etc.

Are nurses in PA continuing to stay with the hospital industry as staff or are they jumping, as much as I think they are to agency work?
Also, what is the big draw to agency work vs. staff positions?
What are the advantages and disadvantages? Some I know are obvious but I want to hear from those I am not currently work with to gain some outside insight.

Are there any retention ideas that are most effective? From the posts I have read, this seems to be the group to ask.

What is an ideal position selling point for nurses?

Are nurses really influenced by the sign on bonuses? vacations? bennies?

What is it that makes or breaks a deal?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! All knowledge is a powerful tool

Re: Pennsylvania NURSING

Are there any retention programs that are currently working to keep nurses happy? Just curious.... Are there any ideas on what would be desirable for nurses working today regarding retention?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
