Smile Dealing With Parents In Paeds

Hi how do some of you deal with parents who are refusing to help in the care of their child especially when the child is being difficult? It really gets to me esp. when the child is being difficult and the parent backs the child. One incident we had a 5year old who needed a hip spika it was an orhto patient the child refused and so did the parent even when the Dr. gave explanations! The child is still warded with skin traction in progress but the check x-rays show not much improvement.I have been in paeds 3 years now and somehow i believe paediatric surgical is thougher than paeds medical.I have been in both areas.I love working in paeds but parents stress me sometimes.Any advice on dealing with my stress......lol

Re: Dealing With Parents In Paeds

Unfortunately, if the parents are refusing a treatment for their child, that is their right. However, if their refusal is putting the child in danger, a social services consult would be warranted. I work in ER now, but worked in peds before that, and I think the hardest thing about taking care of peds patients sometimes is dealing with the parents.
