I have been an RN for 8 years now with 5 years of L&D experience behind me. I also traveled for 12 months about 4 years ago. I have been working a RN position for a doctor's office in an OB type setting for the last 3 years, and am thinking of traveling again. I have all of my qualifications up to date.(NRP,BLS,ACLS, and necessary references) However, I am being turned away from the travel companies I have talked to for not having "recent" L&D experience, even though I still am in that type of setting. Are there any companies someone could suggest, that I might be able to work with?? Or any other suggestions???? Thanks

Try RN Demand and ask for my recruiter, his name is Jay. My speciality is ICU, I've been traveling for a three years,but i know they are hontest and be able to tell you if they can work for. I had a buddy of mine in ICU out of practice for a couple years and all he did was some per diem shifts for a couple weeks. But in your case I don't see a problem. But if you call ask for Jay and tell him I sent you. Again his very informative and hontest. goood luck,
I need answers asap. I am a fairly new nurse with 2.5 years experience. Out of necessity, I need to travel to VA and be in the Hampton Roads area for a few months. I know nothing about the travel experience, how travel nurses are accepted by staff nurses, how long do you usually have to get orientated, say, Med-Surg area, and what are the major do's and don'ts to all of this? Welcome any suggestions, thoughts, experiences, or contacts.

How a staff nurse treats really depends on the hosptial. If the hosptial uses a lot of travelers, then staff accepts you well. You have to understand as a traveller you might make more than staff and they might give you more work. I mean they won't be mean, but they will give a heavier work load sometimes. but hontestly in my three years of traveling I've only came across one assignment where they weren't traveller friendly, but in truth they just weren't friendly period. The hosptial was undering going alot of changes. VA is beautiful in the summer time, I hope you make it out there. PM if you want more information.
I am also a L&D RN with 12 years experience but took some time off to work in a clinic. Iwas told by most companies I needed atleast 3 months back on the floor then could travel, I did that but only worked PRN 1-2 shifts a week and now I have been traveling for almost 2 years. Hope this helps!
