Wound Care Tech

We're looking at implementing a new clinical subset for our WOCN's - Wound Care Techs.

Was wondering if anyone else has had luck with WCTs or has a job description they wouldn't mind sharing. We've looked at our BNE and are able to delegate some of the wound care tasks to the WCT under supervision of the WOCN-RN.

I tried Google, but there's not much direct reference to WCTs except for Job Postings.

Thanks!

Re: Wound Care Tech

What are your Techs? CNA's? I have seen a 'Tech' once long ago; she assisted the Wound Care Nurse mainly by turning patients who required it.

Otherwise, the CNA's I have worked with have applied certain allowed ointments with orders that read 'May keep at bedside'.

Re: Wound Care Tech

Greetings -
I am actually a 'wound tech'and will be testing for my wound certification at the end of the year. We (as there is one other tech) assist the CWCN's by bringing the patients into the care area, get vitals when necessary, take of dressings - but do not take out packing - and will clean the site. we also assist with appling wound vac's.
I take care of scheduling patient appointmenst for wound care and also follow up with orders, chart notes and other pertanent paperwork. We have a GREAT team here. Anyone have a job discription/competency for wound tech's?
