I have been 17 years in the nursing field. Have had juvenile arthritis since a little child. Took medication all my life and am healthy with it. Evidence that drugs do not always screw up your body if you take them as the doctor says and get your checkups. Now, I am taking a nursing break and looking into new things. But, I will always be a nurse at heart and care like a nurse. So, I want to keep involved. I have worked in hospitals for my experiences, Med-Surg so if anyone has questions. I have the experience! :luck:

Cat,
i am actually thinking about childcare or pre school teaching. Possibly Cosmetology but that would be a sideline thing. I just love to do hair! I just can't be a paper pusher...lolol

Esthetician, or however it is spelled? :whatever:
Once a nurse, always a nurse! I hope you find something you like to do in addition to nursing. I used to work childcare, though, and I have to tell you it was harder on my body than nursing is. Welcome to the Lounge!!

Thank you for my pleasant welcome! I have been a hospital nurse so long the other options don't seem as involved with people. I really like the direct emotional interaction with people. I guess I need to give to get you know. But, physically it is not good for me at the level I was at in the trauma ICU. Maybe I need a temp break. BUT, you know the saying is right. Once a nurse always a nurse... I agree.. I will continue to post here. thank you for the welcome again!
:luck:
PS - forget the hair thing! I went for a cut yesterday and the perm solution smelled like the hospital bathrooms (if you know what I mean)
Welcome to the forums, hope you find something you enjoy. I've been doing bedside for 10 years, tried a lot of other things too (home health, long-term, deskwork, etc).
Don't think I'll ever leave nursing entirely (long as I can carry my weight). Do like that there are lots of option out there for career alternatives.
Have you seen http://www.nursingentrepreneurs.com ? It's a directory of nurse-owned businesses, some nursing related, a lot non. With bedside your experience, you'll find there are lots of ways to apply it in the real world too :0
Best of luck,

Supposedly 8 out of 10 people suffer from hemorrhoids. Does that mean that the other 2 people enjoy them???
