| Unsterile bladder is OK A patient's UOP had dropped. Because he didn't want to have to treat the patient, the resident (urology resident) stated that patient probably just needed her Foley irrigated. The nurse turned to go get a sterile Toomey before she realized that the MD had picked up the syringe she was using for the NGT. He swiftly filled it with water and shoved that unsterile liquid into this patient's bladder. The nurse was so surprised that it took her a minute to explain to him that the syringe was hardly sterile. He replied, "Oh, that's OK; Trust me, I'm a urologist." That was two years ago and we protect our patient's Foleys whenever we see him. |
