    Revoked RN License

My license to practice was revoked due to a criminal conviction. When I was in nursing school in '96 I was a single mother of a 8 yr old 8 months pregnant(my husband left us just months earlier)putiing myself through school. I was just a few months away from graduating a BSN program. While shopping at a local store, I slipped and fell in a puddle of liquid and suffered a significant injury to my back (2 herniated disks), fortunatley my baby was delivered without incident, but I was laid up for months and suffered tremendously from this injury. I was told that I probably would not be able to practice nursing because of my physical limitations at the time and no one could say for sure if I would fully recover. To make bad matters worse the store was I was injured to refused to compensate me in any way not even for medical bills. I was forced to obtain legal representation. No lawyer would take the case because they said there was no case because there were no actual witnesses to the fall or to attest to how long the spill had been there. While confused and depressed a classmate form nursing school offered to be a "witness" to the fall only so I could obtain legal representation, being naive we thought we could tell the truth once in court and before a jury. However, even though we told the truth in court, the case was dismissed despite all the medical evidence presented regarding my injury. In later years ('98) after 2 years of physical and occpational therapy I did recover from the injury enough to practice nursing and began working. In 2001, I was charged with perjury related to the court case in which I was injured. It seems that even though we had told the truth in court, the depositions we gave to obtain council prior to going to court were false. The court was aware of the mitigating circumstances, so apparently we rubbed someone the wrong way. So 4yrs and 11 months after (1 month shy of the statute of limitations)that court appearance we were charged and convicted of perjury and of course our nursing licenses were revoked even though perjury is only a class E felony. We are now told by our nursing board that we are eligible for reinstatement of licensure if we obtain reccomendations from our peers, other RNs, but the catch is it can't be anyone you know because they may be biased. Do you think I should be allowed to practice again. I've never received any other disciplines or sanctions or had any patient complaints

    Re: Revoked RN License

I can't imagine the census in jails if all of us were convicted for the lies we tell! Don't you dare wallow in self pity! Get the recommendations the board requires, and stay in their face! Get relentless like you were about getting the nursing degree and recovering from your injury! You've come too far to quit or be hindered by this action. Also do all you can to make sure that when you are reinstated it is not a conditional reinstatement.

I wish you and your children the best. I pray that the worst is over and the best is yet to come in your life.

    God bless,

    Tanya

I have simular situtition. I graduatd from a bsn program in 1994. Went to take the boards (scheduled previously) the day after I found out that my docter-husband of ten years had married a patient who was also married...yes whil still married to me. I scored in the 61 percent level an you had to score in the 62 percent level to pass. Well my life went to hell in a hand basket. Still together I started having severe migraines..he prescribed Stadol-NS. I waws never an addictive person...don't smoke, drink or ( took any drugs) well I became addicted to Stadol.
We had been divoced about 3 months I called to ask him if
he would callitin for me...he said it would be the last tim
e....when I went to the pharmacy they arrsted me....his
bigamest wife told the pharmacy that they didn't know anything about him approving the script.
I had never been in any troble in my life...I wante to die..
I was so scarred that I quit then and there.
In my humiliation I got a cheap lawyer....I was arrested fr a class B misdemenor...but the laywer told me the drug had been changed to 3rd degree felony....well I took his advise
and received defered judification (five years mail in robation} I was released after one third of the time.
whn I went to apply o retest they told me a new law said
you were only allowed four years to test after graduation...
so now I am past the time and I have found out that the lawyer lied and the drug is still only considered a misdemenor.....have any good advise..I worked so hard for my degree and I feel so lost.
