Nurse defied 'culture of secrecy':"A whistleblower nurse who was allegedly defamed in a letter read to State Parliament had defied a culture of secrecy in dealing with complaints about Brisbane's largest hospital, a court was told yesterday.
In the Supreme Court in Brisbane, Wendy Erglis was suing five fellow nurses – Melissa Buckley, Lisa Shearman, Judy Cummings, Kylie Ash and Ron Middleton – and the Queensland Government for allegedly defaming her. She dropped her action against six other nurses who signed the letter.
Erglis, a former nurse in the Royal Brisbane Hospital's bone marrow transplant unit ward 9D, claimed a letter read out in Parliament by then health minister Wendy Edmond had imputations which defamed her.
