    Candid Advice and Education needed

I am considering pursuing an online nursing degree; however, I am unsure about the quality of such programs and how to evaluate them. In addition, I do not know which degree I would need to pursue first, what one can do with each type of certification, etc. (i.e. LPN, RN, BSN, Masters...). My background is a bit odd; I have a BA in Biochemistry and an MPH. In addition, I have completed many of the requirements for a PhD (reproductive immunology) and much of the first year of medical school. I had to leave school to care for my mother and it is currently not realistic for me to return directly to medical school. However, I am deeply committed to a career in healthcare and miss direct patient care and education. I would appreciate any information and/or advice any members here care to offer. Thanks in advance!

First of all... what part of the country are u currently residing??? makes a difference on schools,,, I'm not sure I would recommend a totally online program for what you are descri bing, BUT,, that being said. there are likely very reputab;e programs out there, CAVEAT: make certain the program you choose is credentialed. this is essential, otherwise, your paper may mean nothing when it comes time to use it,,, as to career path--> I'm taking it you have no nursing degree is that correct... You talk about wanting to do patient care, they may look at you as overqualified. Consider:
nursing school with direct to PHd (University of Ks. has one).you might explore others, I wouldn't waste your resources (time, $$$$, energy spent pursuing) a degree you don't need. You are probably well suited academically for graduate and doctoal teaching, if that is your passion; there'd be plenty of research. write me more if i've missed the mark
