Break and Discount for Nurses

:banana:Hi All,

A friend of mine runs Holt Farm (4* Accommodation in the Brecon Beacons)

I've persuaded them to give us a discount as they have the most lovely place but it tends to be really quiet in the New Year. Therefore if you give them a call and quote 'nurse' you'll get a 20% discount on January and February 2010 prices. Not bad for getting over christmas!!

They also do long weekends which is unusual, or mid week breaks.

It's a really chill place. modern on the inside but complete with underfloor heating, log fires and funky features. They have 4 properties so you can have a cottage for 2 or take the whole lot for a reunion and sleep just over 20.

If you have leave to take then I may well see you there as i'm certainly taking advantage of it ;o)
Have fun gang

I am going to study to become a nurse when I head off to college. I want to be a travel nurse. But I don't understand how to make everything stable. Lets say, I have a home to go to in New York City, and I am taking on an assignment in another state, I still pay for most of the bills in my home, but everything is payed for in the other state? (aside from personal things I would buy at a store), right?
And do I need to keep taking on assignments in different states constantly, when sometimes I would want to be home and working at home? It is like sometimes I would need a break, and would want to work around where I live but I can't just quit all the time to take on an assignment in a different state, so I am very confused! (BUT I REALLY WANT TO BE A TRAVEL NURSE) I mean then I will need money which is sort of obvious in this economy..

So how does that work? I really do want to travel and be a nurse but it is like 2-3 months a year I would want to stay home and just relax and see my family. But I don't want to be unemployed

Stay away from Cerner transition in DC

Hello all. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm an ICU nurse who travels as a tele nurse. I haven't traveled for 6 months and took a 4 week assn in DC for the Cerner computer charting crossover.

Let me tell you all that is the biggest calamity that I have been involved in and it's only a 4 week assignment . No one on the floor knows anything about the system, and the charge nurses can't help you or direct you to anything because they feel overwhelmed themselves. This is the biggest disaster since the war.

Nursefinder's is the onsite travel nurse agency and all the information they gavTheye us about the clocking in process to our purpose for being there has been wrong. They didn't send in my hours to be paid, and they kept calling (until I told them to stop) everyday to remind you that you were supposed to show up for work that day or night.

Stay away!!! And this is the opinion of every nurse I have come in contact with. No one wants to extend. I have met 2 travelers who are willing to, but that's b/c they have been without work for 4 months.

Enjoy your day!

Looking to travel farther...

Well, I've been working agency for 1 year this month. I work for a company (Great little agency) that only does Ga. and SC. I figured I'd see if it was for me before I jumped out a long way from home.

I'm doing OK, I get a lot of requests from clinics so I stay really busy. Too busy sometimes... About the farthest I go from hone is a few hundred miles but I'm gone more than I'm home and I've adapted to living out of a suitcase and in hotels. It's not so bad. In fact I like it. A blackberry and a GPS is about all I need...

Anyway, I've learned that walking into some place "cold" and doing my job isn't that bad so I'm ready for the next thing.

Any advise?

BEWARE of ACCESS NURSES

This company led me to believe that I had a job. I signed a contract and gave my job my two weeks’ notice. Then I receive a called from my recruiter Max V. on a Wednesday three days before I planned to leave telling me "I fell between the cracks", the hospital said my experience was not recent. I was not even upset because after three weeks of searching I found another job. But these guys had the audacity to call and ask for 70 dollars for a varicella titer that I receive. The company was supposed to deduct it from my first paycheck. Really, what paycheck?
This company is unethical. They were so eager to get a nurse that they did not take the time to secure me a position they just wanted a contract sign. I would be very carefully before I get involve with this company. There is a website jobvent.com and their employees are also treated poorly.

Florida Travel?

Have been considering travel nursing for years. I think this year may be the one. Am considering traveling to Florida. Am trying to do my homework so as to be as informed as possible, but the more I research, the more discouraging news I uncover.

Which agency? There is the top 10 list, yes, but it seems that for every good company, there are also bad reviews to be found - and vice versa. Not sure if this is the work of saboteurs from other companies, recruiters, or what but I have to tell you, it can really make a nurse re-think taking this big leap into unknown and uncertain territory. It's hard enough not knowing what you're getting yourself into, but not knowing who you can trust, who's for real, and who's a wolf in disguise is very frustrating.

I know I need to find a good agency and hopefully this agency offers positions in the field/area I am searching for. Also need to find a good recruiter. Well, still not quite sure how to go about that one. The person offering up the info may very well be a recruiter. Sigh. I'll keep researching but can't help feeling as though I'm just going to have to take a blind leap of faith and hope everything works out for the best.

Get everything in writing - got that one but sounds like even that's no guarantee.

Not sure what I'm asking for here, but if anyone's interested, I'm looking for a position/"good" agency/"good" recruiter/"good" hospital in southern Florida. My specialty (and the position I am seeking) is in the OR where I have worked for over 8 years. I am a 34 year old female. Florida is the only other state I have a license in currently and I am hoping to go for the winter.

I've also read how horrible the hospitals treat their nurses down in Florida (with 1 or 2 exceptions)... another discouraging discovery. Does anyone have a good Florida travel experience to share? I could really use one right about now. :6:

Also, anyone know what is the current pay rate for Florida nurses? I'd like to not get taken advantage of.

Thank you in advance. :-)

New To Travel; Denton, TX; Travel Company?

I am new to travel nursing and hopefully plan to start Jan 2010. I am excited about a change in my life and hope that it all works out okay. I have been a RN in Emergency for almost 13 years. I am looking in Denton, TX because my best friend lives 20 mins from there. I probably would not travel if I did not know someone living elsewhere.

I have applied with RNNetwork and also Travel Nurse of America. Any feedback on either company would be great. They both seem to have about the same benefits, but I want a great customer relationship.

Any feedback would be great. I also hear you have to bring your own linens. How do you know what size bed you will have to get the correct sheets and comforter?

Thanks
